The 2nd edition Domains of Dread mention two (rather vague) ways to escape:

You escape when the Dark Powers are done with you, once you have served your purpose of extending the suffering of the dark lord imprisoned there. So, there are no specific ways to escape. But that was because most of those modules started with characters getting into Ravenloft through the mists, getting dropped into the domain of a dark lord, solving issues related to his/her backstory, then getting spat out of the realm by the end of the adventure. That said, nearly half the published modules under 2nd edition had one way or another to escape the realm. And everybody else that gets sucked into Ravenloft is there to extend their pain. The point of Ravenloft is to be an inescapable prison for the Dark Lords, their eternal torment, their eternal suffering. I don't think any players can state honestly that that high a price is a good point for playing all of DDO's content, And with feywild, the adventure pack and now the new mini-expansion, that price point will be floating close to $500.There is absolutely no reliable way to leave Ravenloft VIP especially just seems off in value considering 50%+ of adventure packs are dated content nobody plays.ĮDIT: for reference, total price for everything in the game, pre-feywild and peril of the planar eyes, without any "extras" such as tomes, was well over $400.

With/after the free period i personally had hoped they would do away with (most of) the overpriced, dated adventure packs and move subscription to cover more expansion, but sadly it seems they bundled some of the oldest expansions (while cutting classes and other extras, so total price remains the sam) so the value proposition stayed mostly the same. And then on top of that, there's still the typical MTX such as tomes, xp boost potions, etc. Then you have to buy each expansion separately, outside of any subscription. The above can be obtained with a VIP subscription. You have to buy separately: -races -classes -skill trees (can be unlocked ingame for free) -adventure packs The VIP page wording does indeed look pretty deceiving. It's very confusing to a newbie, and doesn't resemble basically any other MMO out there. Yeah, the monetization system of DDO is a mess. Sorry for the rant but this is more than frustrating.Įdit: After my anger i decided now to support the game and buy it since i paid 10€ initially for vip so far and the game deserves more than that but the same problem will arise with the next expansions then. Well i guess it is my fault for not reading properly into it but that makes me not to play anymore since the expansions are way to expensive. Upgrading to VIP gives you an all-access pass to future, present, and past Dungeons & Dragons Online game updates.

The VIP is not even worth it really wtf.Īlso for a beginner it is super misleading. Other MMO give you old expansion after a year is you subscribe. Now i found out that i can't access it without buying it? The expansion is from 2017. I'm new to the game and just reached level 10 with my pale master and was looking forward to play Mists of Ravenloft because there seems to be some good necro-gear and the theme is awesome.
